The Smart Cities and Communities Lighthouse Projects are the proving ground for Europe’s sustainable, liveable and smart cities of the future. So far, nine SCC1 Lighthouse Projects have been selected and launched under the Horizon 2020 funding. Altogether, they are the first large-scale testing grounds and showcases for integrated urban solutions such as sustainable mobility, energy, crosscutting ICT and smart business opportunities. In addition, there is an increasingly strong focus on the involvement of local stakeholders and the impacts on urban communities in Europe.
The nine SCC1 Lighthouse Projects, among them Triangulum, pool experience and expertise of 27 European cities and many interdisciplinary partners from business, research and NGOs. The Joint Smart City Initiative provides project-based workshops seeking to share the learning curves, challenges and opportunities amongst existing projects, their stakeholders and (future) smart city enablers. The interaction and exchange with key stakeholders such as the European Commission, the European Innovation Partnership or other smart city projects such as “CityKeys” or activities of organisations such as Eurocities will take an important role in this initiative that seeks to significantly contribute to developing our future smart cities. The Joint Smart City Initiative links current and future Lighthouse and Follower Cities and their partners as well as experts, organisations and enablers that are committed to getting smart city projects off the ground.
